Can You Really Make Money With An Online Business?
Copyright © Katie Ford
http://katiehomebiz.eoltt.com
When it comes right down to it, making money is what
controls most people’s lives. No one wants to not have
money, and more so than that, you simply need a lot of
money to get along in the world today. It is harder and
harder to live on minimum wage, and most people aren’t
content with the kind of lifestyle that minimum wage can
bring them. There are many times in which a person has
to struggle to get by, and making money is usually at
the root of these struggles. It is always important to
make money.
And there is also the issue of what we do in order to
make money. The idea of running an online business is a
great one – just imagine being able to get rid of your
commute and your office clothes, and simply go to work
each day at home, logging in online and taking care of
what needs to be taken care of. You could be there to get
the mail, and you could be there when your kids get home
from school. An online business is something that ends
up being the dream of a lot of people. They can work from
home, and they can live their lives. But can they make
money?
Before you are so quick to answer yes or no, you have to
understand that an online business is simply a business.
People wonder if they can make money from online
businesses, but the answer lies in the fact that some
businesses online do well, and some do terribly. This is
where you have to look. There is no magical answer when it
comes to whether or not an online business can make money –
it all depends on the business. You have to be willing to
work hard and you have to be willing to run the business,
whether it is online or not.
That said, there are online businesses that do very well,
and there are online businesses that fail. Both of these
exist, exactly the same way that businesses exist in the
non online sector. So what is the trick? Well, that’s not
right either, as there is no real trick to making sure that
your business online is one that is going to do well. The
factors that are important in regular businesses are going
to be just the same in the online world. You have to have a
solid business plan, and you have to be offering something
that other people are going to want from you. Then, you have
to work your hardest to get the business off of the ground,
and you have to continue to work hard in order to keep it
that way.

Building Your Home Business Network
Copyright © Katie Ford
http://katiehomebusiness.eoltt.com
Once you have a home business going, you still have the
most important job of all to accomplish, that of building
your network of customers and/or clients. After all,
without a network of contacts, you will not have any
reason to have a business, will you? It doesn't matter
what kind of business you have chosen because in every
business, whether it's a product or service, there is a
need for customers/clients. There is no business, online or
off, that can survive without benefit of networking. Even
if you are a service provider of a creative nature, you
need to network in order to assure that you will constantly
have those who are interested in buying what you create.
For some people, the idea of networking conjures up the
idea of going door to door or making phone calls to people
they don't know, but that is not the idea at all. In fact,
the best networking tool is providing good service so that
your customers will refer others to your business. Word of
mouth is always a better sales tool than any other type of
networking that you can do. Of course, even though referrals
are your most effective network tool, that doesn't meant
that it is or should be your only tool. Even with referrals,
you need to do some networking if you expect your business
to be successful and to continue to maintain success. That
doesn't mean that you have to get on the phone every day
and contact people nor does it mean that you have to
constantly surf the Internet to find others who are
interested in what you have to offer. However, you do need
to take time on a regular basis to perform networking
activities, which may vary from contacting referrals to
simply promoting your website.
The value of networking has been underemphasized in many
respects, and because of that, many new businesses are
doomed to fail before they are even out of the planning
stages. However, you choose to network for your business
is not the issue, but if you expect your business to
succeed, you have to promote it. Do not be fooled into
thinking that once you have your client base, you no
longer have to promote your business because if you
accept that line of thinking, you will not be in business
for very long.
Customers are fickle, so they will not always buy goods
or services from you. You need to have a backup plan for
those times when "regular" customers decide to utilize
the services of another provider. Unless your product or
service is unique, which is unlikely unless you are an
inventor, people will go where they find the products or
services they want at the price they want to pay. Always
be prepared for these slow times by continually networking
for new customers.

Brainstorming Your Home Business Ideas
Copyright © Katie Ford
http://katiehomebusiness.eoltt.com
You have decided to start a home business – good for you!
You are going to find that you have much more financial
freedom, as well as much more freedom in general, so you
are shortly going to be able to say that you work from
home, and to be proud of this fact. This is going to be
great for you, so it is good that you have decided to get
started. But how do you do that?
There are several ways to get started with your home
business ideas, but among the best ways rest the idea of
actually brainstorming what you want to do. You might think
you have an idea for a home business, and you might be
struggling with the details. Or, you might simply know
that you want to have a home business, but you have no
idea of what you are going to do for one. Either way,
brainstorming can be the right way to go.
The first thing that you should be aware of when it comes
to brainstorming is that you are going to need lots of
room and you are going to need a way to get your ideas
down. Whether you are typing them on the computer,
writing them on paper, or scribbling them on white dry
erase boards, the point is that you have to be able to
write down things in order to make decisions. Don’t try
to do this all in your head.
The first thing that you should do is take a look at the
things you have done in your life and what things have
made you the most happy. Start to make a list of the
things that you do that are pleasurable for you, and
write these things down. This is because the best way
to have a home business is to figure out how to be happy
with what you do. You should be able to do something that
you enjoy, and something that will make you happy. The
point of working from home is taking your own destiny
into your hands, so you want your home business to be
something that you truly are able to enjoy, each and every
day.
Once you have started to write down things that you enjoy
doing, there is another column that you should make, and
this is things that you are good at. Write down what your
skills are – if they are planning or organizing, or writing
or interpreting – what sets you apart form the other people
out there, and what are you proud of yourself for? After
you have written down these things, you should start to see
a pattern in your thoughts, and you can go from there.

Are You Ready for a Home Business?
Copyright © Katie Ford
http://katiehomebusiness.eoltt.com
Before you venture beyond the idea of your dream of a home
business, you need to ask yourself some serious questions
and determine if you are ready to operate a home business.
This has to be something that you are willing to do with
the same loyalty, devotion, and zeal that you would extend
if you were working away from home doing the same thing.
You cannot take the attitude that you can work whenever
it suits you rather than when your customers need you to
be available. You cannot treat a home business like a hobby
and simply devote only those hours that you choose to
devote. There are some home businesses where this is
possible to a greater degree than others, but if you have
a product-oriented business or a service-oriented business
where you deal directly with your customers (accountant,
hairdresser, builder/contractor, cleaning service), you
cannot set your own hours. If you are a freelance creative
artist (writer, editor, copywriter, copyeditor, et al),
you can set your own hours as long as you meet the
deadline for the project.
You have to be certain that you have both the time and the
desire to work at home. Some people are not goal-oriented
enough to work at home and must be in an environment where
they know they have to work certain hours and complete a
certain amount of work within that time frame. If you are
that kind of person, a home business is not going to work
for you because there is not going to be anyone to tell
you that you must work certain hours nor is anyone going
to give you work and expect you to have it finished by the
end of the day. You are the only one who can set these
goals for yourself in a home business, and if you are
unable to do that, it won't work for you.
The thought of working at home and not having to report to
an office or shop every day is appealing, especially
during the winter when the roads may be bad because or the
weather or during the summer when you want to be outside.
It takes a special person to work at home and be able to
prioritize projects so that work, family, and leisure
activities all take their rightful places. If you do not
feel that you are able to devote the time that you need to
a home business, take some time to work on learning how to
do that. If you aren't goal-oriented enough to work a home
business, you would be doing yourself and potential
customers and disservice by pursuing it. Knowing this
doesn't mean you can never operate a home business, but
rather that you aren't ready now. Keep these thoughts in
mind, and when you are ready to commit to working at home,
you are ready.

Affiliate Programs-Do They Work?
Copyright © Katie Ford
http://katiehomebusiness.eoltt.com
When people get the idea of starting a home based business,
one of the first things that comes to mind is joining an
affiliate program. People seem to have this mistaken idea
that because the different companies offering affiliate
programs have so many different products to offer, it will
be easy to sell those products from your website.
The problem is that thousands, and even millions, of other
people with access to the Internet, have the same idea,
so the market is becoming saturated. Even if you do manage
to find a product that sells well, you will have to sell
a great many products in order to make any kind of decent
income from these programs.
This is not intended to dissuade you from joining affiliate
programs as a means to make some extra income, but it is
not something that you can rely upon if you are attempting
to replace a primary or secondary source of income. In
order to make any kind of real money with these programs,
you have to either join hundreds of them and be willing to
invest a great deal of money into advertising your website,
and thus your affiliate programs, or you need to find
those that pay the most commissions. For example, some of
the credit card processing companies like ClickBank offer
$4 and up for every sale that goes through their network
from one of their partners. Even with these higher paid
affiliate programs, you have to be willing to do a great
deal of advertising and promoting of your website in order
to make any substantial income.
With affiliate programs, the key is in advertising and
promoting, and the more you have to advertise and promote,
the better your chances are that you will be successful
with the venture. Those most likely to be successful with
this type of home business are those who are not only
familiar with advertising and promoting websites but
selling as well.
That doesn't mean that someone who does one or the other
cannot be successful, but those who have the most
experience in all aspects of this type of business will
gain the most success. That means you should not only
know about website advertising and promotion and have
experience in sales, but you should also be equally
familiar with the products within your affiliate
program(s).
For example, don't join an affiliate program for a
company that sells political memoirs if you have no
interest in politics. You have to enjoy what you are doing
in order to do your best, and that means knowing and
enjoying the products that you promote. None of this
guarantees success with this type of business venture, but
lacking these qualities assures ultimate failure unless
you gain the knowledge and expertise along the way.

5 Ways a Home Business Can Make One’s Life Easier
Copyright © Katie Ford
http://katiehomebiz.eoltt.com
Home businesses come in many different shapes, sizes and
forms. These types of businesses provide individuals
with an alternative to the office job setting and provide
various freedoms to the business owners as well. In
fact, there are five often-cited ways in which a home
business can make one’s life easier overall.
Child Care Issues
Perhaps one of the most often cited features of a home
business which can make one’s life easier is that by
owning a home business, individuals are able to work while
staying at home with their children. This makes the need
for daily child care a nonexistent factor. Although some
individuals who work from home still opt for putting their
kids in daycare, having a home business does make doing
without child care a possibility.
Transportation Issues
Another way which home businesses can make a business
owner’s life that much easier relates to transportation
issues. When owning a home business, one can conduct
their daily business affairs from the convenience of their
home office. This gets rid of the need for commuting to
an office each day and putting mileage on the car, not to
mention paying costly gas bills. It is also a time saver
with regard to not having to commute to and from work which
is also a highly regarded trait of owning a home business.
Tax Deductions
One who has a home business is also able to reap the
benefits of multiple tax deductions and incentives which
may be available to them. Using a home office enables a
business owner to save money in the long run by seeing
deductions on their annual tax returns. Although this
only happens once a year, the rewards are often quite
good for home business owners who operate their business
out of their home office.
Being Your Own Boss
An additional incentive for home business owners is that
they are their own boss. This is a wonderful thing to
consider. No more bossy employers enforcing strict,
unyielding schedules. Being your own boss is a sure
way to make one’s life easier. One can work when they
want to, take a break if they like and pursue their
occupation in the manner which they see fit.
Reduce Overhead This Way
Lastly, an individual who runs a business out of their
home will often find that their life is made easier by
saving themselves money in the end. As opposed to those
individuals who own businesses which are run out of
separate offices, home business owners will see large
reductions in overhead. Making use of the home as a
workspace is a great way to make life easier on the
individual and their wallet.

With Research You Can Start An Internet Business
Copyright © Katie Ford
http://katiehomebiz.eoltt.com
You do not have to wander around town looking for
real estate to get into business for yourself. You
can always start an internet business, provided you
can offer a viable product or service, or take
advantage of opening one of many available franchises.
Your abilities, desire and financial resources can
help determine the type of business and how long it
may take to get it started.
When considering starting an internet business you need
to determine the type of business you want to be
involved with. You have the choice of selling products
or services as well as whether you want to sell your
own product line or someone else’s. The same can be true
for service-related businesses. There are several
companies offering services that you can resell and make
a profit and if you find any of them useful, you may want
to be involved.
You can also choose to sell a combination or products
and services to take advantage of different aspects of
the online shopping venture. While niche marketing and
focusing on one product line has proven successful, so
has being able to take advantage of different needs for
different customer bases. Niche markets are more focused
while a product mix reaches more of your targeted
audience. You can also offer backend products, such as
printer paper and ink to go with printers.
Working capital is a serious consideration in starting any
internet business and probably the biggest expense will
involve marketing your business. A good business plan can
help you determine your target audience, which in turn
will help determine where you will focus your marketing.
This plan should be part of the overall business plan as
without a specific market to target, you could end up
simply throwing money into the wind and hoping it falls
where it will do the most good.
Sustaining growth is another planning process and
depending on your product line can be a viable exercise.
Every business that sells merchandise should plan to offer
products that are considered disposable. Items that
customers will need to replenish or replace when used to
gain the possibility of repeat business. Some businesses,
such as home mortgages, are only able to sell to the same
customer once, or maybe twice so they are constantly on
the lookout for ways of generating more customers.
A business offering disposable items do not have to
continually focus on new customers, rather good customer
service and quality products can provide continued growth
based on repeat shopping by the same customers. For
example, if you sell digital cameras, it may be years
between sales to the same customer. However, you can
bolster your sales by also offering memory cards and
printing services or supplies to bring in additional
sales to existing customers.
